Teesside Lions have signed American guard Michael Hood, adding experience, athleticism and scoring punch to the roster ahead of a big double-header weekend at home.
Hood arrives in Teesside following a strong collegiate career in the United States, where he competed at both College of Southern Idaho and University of Montana. During his time at Southern Idaho, Hood established himself as a reliable scorer and on-ball defender, regularly producing double-figure scoring performances while also contributing strongly in steals and fast-break points.
In 2019/20 season he was selected as an honourable All American after setting the scoring record for CSI with 22.7 points per game, leading the Scenic Athletic West Conference in scoring.
His JUCO career saw him recognised as one of the team’s most consistent two-way guards, trusted in high-pressure situations and late-game moments.
After moving on to Montana, Hood stepped up to NCAA Division I level, where he continued to develop his all-round game. Competing against elite conference opposition, he recorded career highs in points, rebounds and assists, while earning praise for his defensive versatility and ability to guard multiple perimeter positions. His time at Montana further sharpened his basketball IQ and physicality.

The Lions coaching staff believe Hood’s collegiate résumé translates well to the British game. His combination of athleticism, work rate and competitive edge is expected to add tempo on both ends of the floor, while his experience in structured college systems should help him integrate quickly into the Lions rotation.
Head coach Serge Bojev welcomed the addition, saying:
“Michael brings exactly the kind of intensity and competitiveness we look for. He’s proven himself at a high level in the US, he defends hard, and he understands how to impact winning basketball. He’s hungry, driven, and we’re confident he’ll raise the standard of the group.”
Hood is set to make his home debut this weekend as Teesside Lions return to action with back-to-back home fixtures. On Saturday evening, the Lions host Cardiff Archers with a 6pm tip-off, before welcoming Sheffield Sharks on Sunday, also tipping at 6pm. The double-header provides supporters with an immediate opportunity to see the newest Lion in action on home court.
Supporters are encouraged to come out in force to welcome Hood and back the team across both games. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are available now via TeessideLions.com.
